Goodbye Guatemala...

An early wake up call and departure.

and then another 8+ hour layover in DFW.....

Day 7 - La Aurora Zoo, Hyper Paiz and Miraflores

Dominic's foster family joined us Sunday morning for a trip to the zoo.

Dominic and I at the zoo in 2008 -

We were there early, which was perfect - the crowds were forming as we were preparing to leave.

We stopped by Hyper Paiz which has now been completely transformed into WalMart, hung out at the pool and did some shopping at both the Futura mall and Miraflores.  We had been very lucky in avoiding the rain all week.  Just as Leslie and I were leaving Miraflores Mall, a downpour started.  Everyone took cover, but we decided it was such a short walk we could make it back - we got soaked!  Quite an experience!

Back at the hotel, we took a few photos is the chair Dominic claimed as "his area" and packed up for an earlier departure on Monday -

Look familiar?

Day 6 Continued - Back to the city.

For our last 2 nights in Guatemala, we stayed at Grand Tikal Futura.  Here we are heading down the elevator to meet Dominic's foster family.  We were on the 8th floor and could see them in the lobby below waiting for us.  We were all very excited, but not sure how Dominic would react.

Reunited after 4 years!

They were like 2 peas in a pod.  Laughing, giggling, sharing "secrets".

We had dinner in the food court at the mall and then came back over to the hotel lobby for a bit.

Day 6

Saturday morning was very peaceful, but also a little sad. Fernando's coffee and Dona Luisa Banana Bread in the courtyard as we prepared to pack up and leave our hotel...

An early morning visit to La Merced.

And then we were off to spend some time with Ninos Con Bendicion in San Antonio Agua Calientes.  We watched the children perform their songs and dances.

And joined in on the last number.

After the performance, we learned how to grind corn and make tortillas.  The day we were there they were using blue corn.

Everyone got a turn at grinding.

And then we rolled and patted our tortillas.

After tortillas, we spent some time playing and hanging out with the kids.

A wonderful experience!

Back in Antigua, I was so happy we got to make a quick stop at Hector's.  YUM.

Dominic and I at Hector's in 2008 with a group of friends -

An amazing few days in Antigua.  Headed back to Guatemala city....
