Updated pics

No pink today...

From Dominic's expression, I think he's had enough of this and is ready to come home. ;)

There's no doubt about it, he's outgrown his clothes. This coat and pants were too big when I left last time.

Going to re-pack my suitcases. I was in a bit of denial and packed the smaller clothes anyway...

Red is ALMOST Pink...

My nephew assured me a few weeks ago that it was ok for boys to like pink. According to his sister, "Pink is almost like red anyway... So boys can like pink too."
I'm going to hang out with my good luck charms tomorrow and hope they bring me PINK!

2nd DNA at the Embassy!

The package arrived at the Embassy today!

There was some concern - the package didn't show up on the FedEx website ALL WEEKEND. I thought perhaps it didn't make it out in Friday's shipment, but it still wasn't on there today. How can a girl stalk FedEx with no tracking number?!?

Finally an email from the lab today to say that they FORGOT a digit when sending out the tracking number.

This is the final step! I should receive an email this week from the Embassy indicating when my appt is scheduled and when I can bring Dominic home!

It's on the way!

DNA was shipped back to the US Embassy in Guatemala tonight! Still on track to hear something next week.

I talked to my FM again on Thursday, this time with my translator. ;) Dominic is walking in the walker. That's the part I missed in the translation. I could hear him SCREAMING again. :) Not because he was upset or crying, he just likes to scream. He did that while I was there in November too. She said he's extremely active and has a lot of energy - he runs from one side of the house to the other in his walker, picking up anything he can along the way and THROWING it. I'm going to have my hands full and I can't wait!

Though he's eating quite a bit, he didn't gain any weight this month, but grew another inch. At his final appointment, his doctor told my FM he believes he'll be tall by Guatemalan standards.

DNA update

DNA arrived at the lab yesterday. It should be processed and sent out on Friday. Still hoping to receive my travel date by the end of next week.

Some pictures from my foster family's house.

Dominic in his chair ready to eat.

This was Dominic's first bed.

And then he graduated to the crib.

This worried me because of all the stuff in the crib! All I could think of was him suffocating! No wonder he hates the empty crib I put him in while visiting.

I'm not sure which I'm more excited about - the fact that I have confirmation that 2nd DNA was done yesterday or that I GOT TO TALK TO DOMINIC TODAY! :)

I was laughing and crying and promising him the world while he said, "AGGGHHH!!!" He continues to be very vocal. I've called so many times over the last few months, but this is the first time he's been awake.

He still has no teeth, but has been eating cereal, fruit and eggs. My foster mom said he's walking?! This is hard to believe because he couldn't even sit up on his own in November. Perhaps she means he can walk while you hold on to him. He really wasn't even interested in putting weight on his legs while standing last time. It seems that he's outgrowing his 6-9 months clothes, so it looks like the entire contents of his dresser will be going to the consignment store when we return home and we'll unload the next bin we've already got lined up.

Hoping to have confirmation from the lab later this week that they received his sample here in the States.

8 months...

I can't believe Dominic is already 8 months old. Time really plays with your mind and heart during this process. It's so hard to believe that much time has gone by and even though I've been so fortunate to have a relatively smooth case compared to others, the day-to-day waiting seems endless.

I haven't been able to get in touch with my foster mom to confirm that his 2nd DNA was taken today, but that was on her schedule, along with his final medical appointment.

Just a few more weeks and I'll be there to catch this kiss he's blowing me in person...

Favorite Foto Friday

I haven't posted any pictures of my foster family to protect their privacy. However, I don't think this photo is too revealing and I love it... During the last dinner with my foster family, my translator, foster mother and I were consumed with conversation while Dominic and his foster father were having a wonderful time:

I got another e-mail from my foster family tonight saying how sad they are that Dominic is leaving. I couldn't ask for a more loving environment for his first 8 months...

We're ORANGE! My agency portal was just updated to indicate that I received 2nd DNA authorization today!
I know for my non-adoption friends this all sounds like a bunch of jibberish, but in the end, it means Dominic is one step closer to coming home!

All of Dominic's final paperwork is submitted to the US Embassy - final decree, new birth certificate, etc. and they issue authorization for the final DNA test to confirm that Dominic is, in fact, the same child I started this process with. This authorization is actually printed on a piece of paper that is ORANGE in color, hence the status of "ORANGE"!

Next milestones -
2nd DNA
DNA arrival in US at lab for analysis
DNA arrival in Guatemala at US Embassy
US Embassy issues our Visa appt ("PINK" - used to be printed on PINK paper - now emailed)

At this point, my crystal ball is still looking pretty accurate...

Dominic went for his passport today! We're getting closer!

Birth Certificate issued.

It's legal! Dominic is a Mc*******! :)

This picture was taken the final day of my first visit trip. I am so glad to say that I will never have to leave Guatemala without him again!
Passport and 2nd DNA auth next week. See my crystal ball below for estimates on pickup.

This is what gets me through...

Still makes me giggle! :)

Why is he so quiet?

My blogger friend Stephanie shared some laughter with us on Monday, so I thought I would post a few of my video clips this week....

WARNING: This video is not for those that support the American Academy of Pedicatrics views on television and infants. :)

Breaking out my crysal ball...

Rumor has it that birth certificates from Guatemala City that were submitted on 1/3 will be issued on 1/18.

That means we could possibly be coming home around the week of Feb 11th.

All subject to unexplainable delay, of course.... Stay tuned.

This post brought to you by 3M

I don't know who invented this no-mark, peel-and-stick stuff, but I sure wish they would have done it a lot sooner.

This would have saved both my dad and I a lot of tears. Clean walls were a must in his house. No handprints along the hallway, no scotch tape holding up our TigerBeat centerfolds and no pushpins. Much to his dismay, I violated every single one of those and COVERED my walls (and even the ceiling). Do you remember when they used to sell the 6 foot "life size" posters of our favorite rockstars? Yep, I spent most of my early teenage nights with BonJovi and 100+ pushpins.

So here's how I put the new 3M stuff to work in Dominic's room -

Now if I can just get him home so I can be the one to say "Don't touch the walls with your dirty hands." :)

It's all coming together..

I said I would post pics of Dominic's room, but it's not quite complete yet. So here it is - still in progress....

His bedding and curtain aren't quite done yet and I haven't hung anything on the walls. That should all be done over the next few weeks. (right, Mom?) :)

My foster family gave me a set of 3 tea towels for Christmas and I'm working on framing them for Dominic's room:

How I spent my Christmas vacation...

My Dad is so generous with his handyman skills. Over the holiday while they were visiting, I had a few projects for him.

Dominic's dresser:

Dominic's crib:

And the stroller:

Could it be?

My agency has an online portal for clients to track their adoption process. I loved this feature when I signed with them, until I realized it doesn't always get updated in a timely or entirely accurate manner.

Anyway, according to the portal, the decree was signed 12/28/2007! Still waiting on a copy of the actual decree...

One of the hazards of waiting in the adoption process is SHOPPING.

The shopping before your referral when you just "know" the waiting time will go by faster than you ever thought so you better get prepared...

the shopping with your mom and sister...

the shopping with your "girls"...

the bargain shopping...

the shopping for the package to send down to your foster family...

the shopping for the visit trip...

the shopping for the "cram all the holiday pictures" in this visit trip...

the shopping because you think they're coming home soon!

the shopping because they're not coming home when you thought they would and you just need to get out of the house...

the registry shopping!

the "end of the season/because they'll be home by this time next year and I think they'll be wearing this size" shopping...

the "I just received the medical update" shopping where you realize they need the next size shopping because they're growing up without you...

So. The possible/we "think"/might/maybe news about the decree was enough for me to get off the couch and attempt to finish up Dominic's room. Our drawers runneth over with the oddest things... 22 pairs of pants in size 12 months! Do I have a single pair of socks in the next size? Nope... more shopping? :)

**No, I'm not really going shopping. I actually have everything I need for Dominic to come home. Over the holiday week I got his crib, dresser, bath and bedding essentials and a surprise delivery that contained his stroller. We're all set! All we need is for the paperwork to wrap up. Details and pics of his room to come this weekend...

Decree and submitted for BC?

After much discussion with my agency, they believe the decree was signed today and that someone from my lawyer's office will be submitting the file to the Civil Registry in Guatemala City for Dominic's birth certificate.

More to come...

Happy New Year

I saw this while reading yesterday and it really hit home since I'm such a planner -

"You can't plan your happiness."

Now I'm still not sure I agree with that 100%, but as I reflect on 2007, there is no way I could have ever imagined or planned the happiness that I would experience throughout the year on my journey to Dominic.

I am amazed at how lucky I am to have him in my life.

Looking forward to all the unplanned joy 2008 will bring...
