My refrigerator has been empty for years, now it's filled with love...

Dominic's artwork from his first week at school.

The theme was "Space". Clockwise: Saturn, Rocket, Moon, Star, Astronaut.

Saturday in the park....

We met up with a group of friends at the park on Saturday. Dominic played in the sand for the first time and enjoyed the swings again. He was smiling so hard in most of the pics that it looks like his eyes are closed!

DayCare Update

Daycare #2 is wonderful. Dominic loves to play with the other kids and seems to really like his teachers. They do an art project, sing songs, play a game, etc. each day with a different theme. Last week was Ocean and the first week he was there was Planets. A little over his head? Maybe. But I'd rather have it this way then at the previous place....

He loves to sit at the table and eat with his friends. Dominic has started reaching over and taking their food, which I think is part of his new protest against his baby food.

He loves the "pit" where he can climb around and stay relatively safe.

And also enjoys what still seems to him to be an endless supply of "new" toys.

Laundry vs. Picnic

On Sunday, Dominic and I were both pretty grumpy. By noon we were both still in our pajamas and still had a mountain of laundry and housework ahead of us. So what did I do? Left it all and packed us up and headed to the park! We grabbed some McDonald's for a picnic, but it started raining before we setup our blanket, so we ended up "picnic-ing" in the car (requiring a stop at the carwash on the way home - you should see this boy demolish a cheeseburger...)

Luckily the rain cleared for a bit to allow Dominic to enjoy the playground!

Much better than laundry! :)

Newest member of the "Clean Plate" club.....

I've been a little concerned that Dominic has lost his appetite. But it only seems to be the case when it comes to his baby food! He's ALL ABOUT big people food.

Here he is with one his favorites - Chicken Tortilla Soup

I think he would have licked the tray if he could get his mouth down there!

Still here....

I know. I've been bad about updating our blog this week.

This Single-Working-Mommy gig doesn't leave much time for things such as blogging, laundry, grocery shopping, finishing my adoption finalization paperwork, thank you notes, etc. At some point I'll have to figure out how to balance all of this...

We joined a friend at a local mall last Thursday evening for dinner and playtime in the kids area -

Dominic had a blast pulling himself up on everything and having free reign to crawl all over without having to look at me to see if I'm going to say "No".

I'm happy to report that daycare is going VERY well! Dominic only cries a little when I leave, not the huge can-barely-breathe crying we had at daycare #1. This is a tremendous relief and while I still have sufficient mommy-guilt when I leave him at daycare all day, I know he's being well taken care of and he's even beginning to enjoy it.

Last Friday was Dominic's checkup with the pediatrician. He is up to 20.5 pounds and almost 30 inches. This takes him from the 10% for weight to the 50% in only 1 month! He had his last vaccine to bring him up to date and had a bad reaction last weekend - fever, nasty diapers, swollen leg where the shot was injected, etc. but all is well now.

We also had our evaluation on his development this week. There were areas where he was above the milestones for his age and areas where they expressed some concern. Given how quickly he's "caught up" over the last few weeks, I'm going to give it some more time before we move on to signing him up for any services such as occupational therapy, etc. He'll come along in his own time.

After he discovered he could pull himself up on the bathtub last week, he realizes he didn't have to lay down in his crib! Here's how I found him the next morning.

More pics to come once I download them this weekend. Today we're just taking it easy and catching up on things around the house.

Where's the "Slow Motion" button in life?

Yesterday was sitting up and now this? I don't think I'm ready yet...

It all started earlier this evening while we were getting ready for a haircut and bath:

We survived!

We survived our first day of daycare and work. There were some tears shed, but Dominic seems to be doing well. The extra hour commute in the morning and hour in the evening on the days I work downtown is definitely taking it's toll, but I think this is the best place for him.

I forgot my camera the last 2 days, so no daycare pics yet. This morning Dominic waved goodbye to me as I left with minimal tears and when he saw me this afternoon after I walked in, he sat up on his own for the first time.

He's been pulling himself up to his knees on various pieces of furniture and toys and I'm sure it won't be long until he's standing.

More than ever before I'm looking forward to the weekend. :)

Back to reality....

Tomorrow it's back to work for me and off to daycare for Dominic. We're already on daycare #2. I've been known to be a little particular, but his first full day at daycare #1 resulted in a filthy, screaming child with a bruise on his head and a knot on his eye that no one there seemed to know anything about. And they also couldn't tell me if he ate lunch or not. Supervision and nourishment - two things I do expect.

Not only was it frustrating to find a daycare with an immediate opening, but this throws a major wrench into my perfect commute plan. Daycare #1 is only 3 blocks from home and 1 block from my office. We didn't even have to get in the car. Now I'll have to commute in and out of downtown multiple times a day. You'd think I'd learn that life doesn't happen how you plan it, but it still aggravates me most of the time.

The good news is I really like what I saw at the new ridiculously overpriced and inconveniently located daycare. They include Spanish and sign language in their curriculum and if all goes well, I may consider moving to the area.

Dominic has been just a little out of sorts the last 2 days and I hope he isn't coming down with something on our big return to the real world. We had some friends over this weekend and had a great time. The weather was wonderful and we got out for a bit on Saturday -

WARNING: If you try this at home, this WILL result in macaroni in the hair. After he was done, Dominic used the fork for a comb.
