And it was such a relief because we've had some rough nights and mornings with us both being sick over the last few weeks.
I finished up at work a bit early and we visited the aquarium and had dinner to celebrate on his actual day....
He especially loved the tunnel-type tanks at the aquarium and would squeal when one of the big fish swam by and it looked like they would touch him.
During dinner, Dominic decided to use a straw - he got the first part down, but the part where he closes his mouth and swallows needs a little work!
I found the perfect card for Dominic that I wrote his birthday wishes in and will save for when he gets older.
The Gift of a Son
No one can count on the future
or know what they someday might do,
but could I have chosen the son that I wanted,
the one I'd have picked would be you.
I'd have wished for your great sense of humor
and dreamed of your spirit and style.
I'd have hoped for your love and affection,
imagined the joy in your smile...
Life holds some gifts and surprises,
and one of the best there could be
is having a son who's exactly the one
who's already been given to me.
I couldn't have said it better... :)

I decided to make the cake myself. 1st and last time for that, but Dominic enjoyed licking the beaters and would SCREAM when I tried to take the spoon away!
Dressed and ready to celebrate!
His pinata was in the shape of a #1. This is the baby friendly version where you pull the strings instead of bashing it to make the candy fall out. There were about 25 strings. Adrian pulled the 1st one. Jacob pulled the 2nd one that somehow took 22 additional strings with it!
Leaving the "winning" string for Dominic to pull! He was too little for the candy this year, so Adrian and Jacob were more than happy to collect it for him!
And finally the cake!
but discovered he liked it pretty quickly.
And even ate a second piece!
And what would a birthday be without a little cake in the hair...
We had a wonderful afternoon celebrating on his actual birthday, as well - aquarium and dinner. Pics coming soon... Every time I sang "Happy Birthday" to Dominic today he would wait for me to finish and then would start clapping! So cute!
Happy Birthday, Dominic! I love you!

We're still battling the 'ick'. I got it a few days after Dominic, he was good for about a week and now we're both cuddled up in Vick's vap-o-rub and blankets for the weekend. In the midst of this we celebrated Mother's Day, had Dominic's birthday party and had his first portraits taken.
I promise to update with pics of everything soon. Here's Dominic practicing his blinking...

The weather was so nice today we put on some shorts and went for a walk after dinner. This is the pose Dominic entertained strangers with most of the evening. There was a baseball game tonight, so there were quite a few people out and about...
What a show they got of his "porkchops"...

I guess neither my brother or I had this when we were younger, because until today I really thought pinkeye meant your eye was pink. Like bubblegum. Like Pepto. Not green. Have you ever seen someone cry snot?
Ok, I'll spare you the pictures, but Dominic has officially caught the daycare cootiebugs. He's been battling a cold, but it seemed to be moving into his chest and last night I couldn't figure out why he kept wiping the green gunk into his left eye.... His official diagnosis from our doctor visit is sinusitis, bronchiolitis, double ear infection and pinkeye. Oh yeah, he's also cutting his top 4 teeth simultaneously. The front 2 got tired of waiting on the other 2 and decided to make it a group thing.....
While he is miserable at night with the coughing and not being able to breathe, he is doing amazingly well. He still babbles and wants to play.
I, on the other hand, am not excited about using my personal time at work for events like this, but I knew that was part of the deal. And while I once thought the best use of my vacation time was spent sailing the Mediterranean or something along those lines, the snuggle time we've had over the last 24 hours trumps any of those things. Who needs the pyramids in Egypt when I've got my own little wonder of the world right here with me....
